JS SEO TAGS manual

JS SEO TAGS is a flexible yet powerful extension to customize JomSocial HTML metatags for Search Engine Optimization.

This is the procedure to set it up on the Joomla! backend:

1.- Login to the Joomla! back-end.

2.- Go to Extensions → Plugin Manager

3.- Select the JS SEO TAGS plugin (Type: system, File: js_seo_tags) and press the "Edit" button. You should see the following window:

There are three sections: global configuration, frontpage configuration and user profile configuration.

In the global configuration, you setup what's the tool behaviour when the JomSocial component has set some of the HTML metatags. You can choose to use those JomSocial metatags when they are available, ignore them and use the metatags generated by the JS SEO TAGS plugin instead, or either concatenate both of them.

JS SEO TAGS set JomSocial HTML metatags using the suitable language file for that purpose. You can customize them modifying the language file (for example, for the English file, the language file is located at administrator/language/en-GB/en-GB.plg_js_seo_tags.in).

JS SEO TAGS allows also to perform further customizations for the JomSocial frontpage and user profiles.

For the JomSocial frontpage, you can customize the title, description and keywords metatags dirctly from the plugin cofiguration, using the following parameters: JS Frontpage, JS FP Title, JS FP Description and JS FP Keywords.

For user profiles metatags, you can also use the values stored on the JomSocial profile fields, by setting the fields to be used (together with label substitutions for %name, %username, %status and %sitename) and setting the expression to be used for each meta tag.

For example, if the title metatag you want to use is for the user profile is the username followed by the user city, and the sitename, and let's say that the custom profile field id for the user city is 10, you would set the Title Field IDs parameter as 10 (as this is the id of the custom profile field to be used in the metatag), and the User Profile Title Expression parameter as, for example: %username at %1, registered on %sitename (the %1 label refers to the first field set at the previous Title Field IDs parameter).
